Annual Inspections

Existing medical gas system performance testing:

  • Each medical gas outlet within the facility is tested for flow capability.
  • All area alarm panels are simulated and adjusted where possible.
  • All medical gas sources of supply are inspected and master alarm conditions simulated to ensure proper function.
  • Zonal pressure testing is applied to the medical gas systems to determine the condition of the piping seal.
  • Particulate filter testing is performed upon each system to determine contamination levels.

Hospital personnel are instructed in basic outlet flow testing, outlet repair, and zonal gas pressure testing. System performance testing is followed by a report detailing any areas requiring attention.

Our inspection process is designed to help facilities meet the requirements of JCAHO.

JCAHO Environment of Care Standards:
Standard EC.1.9: A management plan addresses utility systems.

g. A management plan describes how the organization will establish and maintain a utility systems management program to inspecting, testing, and maintaining critical components of piped medical gas system including master signal panels, area alarms, automatic pressure switches, shutoff valves, flexible connectors, and outlets.
h. A management plan describes how the organization will establish and maintain a utility systems management program to testing piped medical gas systems when the systems are installed, modified, or repaired including cross-connection testing, piping purity testing, and pressure testing.

Standard EC.2.14: Utility systems are maintained, tested, and inspected.

b. The organization maintains, tests, and inspects critical operating components of utility systems and maintains documentation of performance and safety testing of each critical component in the plan prior to initial use and at least annually thereafter.
